“We Refuse! A Forceful History of Black Resistance” with Dr. Kellie Carter Jackson
Please join ÎçÒ¹AV’s History Department on Thursday, February 6, at 4:30 p.m. in Damen Cinema, to hear Dr. Kellie Carter Jackson discuss her scholarship on Black resistance to white supremacy in the U.S.
Dr. Carter Jackson is the Michael and Denise Kellen ’68 Associate Professor in the Department of Africana Studies at Wellesley College. She studies the lived experiences of Black people with a focus on slavery, abolitionism, the Civil War, political violence, Black women’s history, and film. She is the author of the award-winning book, , which won the SHEAR James H. Broussard Best First Book Prize. Carter Jackson's latest book, , examines a radical reframing of the past and present of Black resistance—both nonviolent and violent—to white supremacy.
Dr. Carter Jackson will offer a brief lecture, followed by a conversation with Dr. Tikia K. Hamilton from the History Department, followed by Q&A. Co-sponsors include: The Institute for Racial Justice, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Departments of Political Science and Criminal Justice and Criminology. The event is being held from 4:30 to 6:00pm in Damen Cinema, Damen Student Center. Refreshments will be served.
